Clinical Study of Cefaperazone Sodium (Cefobid^(¢ç)) in the Treatment of Bacterial Infection in the Practice of Pediatrics




Abstract
An analysis presented 100 cases of severe bacterial infection in Korean Infants and Children, treated at the Department of Pediatrics, Yonsei University Severance Hospital from Feb. 1983 to April 1984.
Ninety-one cases were received previous antibiotics before Cefobid treatment and 9 cases all post-operation of Congenital heart disease state were received Cefobid treatment without previous antibiotics.
The age distribution was from l day to 15 years old.
A dose of 50-200mg/kg divided four times daily was administered intravenously. Among the 100 cases, Sepsis was 29 cases, Pneumonia was 29 cases, Meningitis was 8 cases, Urinary tract infection was 7 cases, Other diseases were 18 cases and Post-op of CHD was 9 cases.
The effect of treatment was divided into 3 groups (e.g. Excellent, Good, Poor). The ,overall- satisfactory responses was 86%, and 79% in Sepsis, 86% in Pneumonia, 88% in Meningitis, 100% in UTI, 83% in Other diseases and 100% in Post-op of CHD.
The satisfactory response rates for organisms were as follows: Staphylococcus species .22/23, Streptococcus species 3/4, Enterobacter 3/3, Klebsiella 6/8, E. coli 4/5, Pseudomonas species 2/4, Acinetobactor species 2/3, Serratia marcescens 1/1 and Neisseria meningitides :2/2.
We found no particular side effects, except for 7 cases of Rash/Skin reaction, 5 cases of Fever, 3 cases of Diarrhea/loose stool, 1 case of Urticaria, 1 case of Vomiting and 1 case of Headache.
